The route passes through ancient Livonian fishing villages along a narrow strip of land, running along the coast of the Great Sea on one side and through the inland part of the Slītere National Park with its forests and rich marshes. Each village preserves something special from the distinctive characteristics of the ancient fishing environment and the reserved charm of the landscapes. The section of the route from Mazirbe to Sīkrags follows the former narrow-gauge railway track. From Košrags, another cycling route branches off, called "Along the Great Sea and Little Sea."
